Coronary angiographies performed with a sub-millimeter resolution multi-slice CT (Cardio-CT) are a new opportunity in the non-invasive diagnosis of coronary artery disease. Comparative studies performed with the invasive coronary angiography have proven that the Cardio-CT is able to rule out significant coronary artery diseases that cause lumen narrowity.
The Cardio-CT is a far more precise process of diagnostic examination in the identification of coronary stenoses than the non-invasive tests routinely employed in clinical practice (Table I). Its unmatched level of negative predictive value makes it possible to rule out significant coronary diseases with full certainty at an early stage of the examination of a cardiological patient.
At our center we perform the most Cardio-CT scans in the country. In March of 2008 we placed the most modern Cardio-CT available in the world into service, the 2x64 slice “Dual Source CT” device, which with the aid of two sources and detector panels makes it possible for its temporal and spatial resolution to be greater than anything else up to now.
